I only know a little bit about the online pharmacy industry. This thread struck my interest because I have been having an ongoing discussion with my dad about online prescriptions. He has been looking for ways to get some of his medication cheaper, he has considered making trips to Mexico to get his medication. I told him that he could get most of his meds online, written by a doctor who prescribes them based on a questionnaire he fills out (saving him a trip to the doctor each time he needed a refill). His first reaction was "that can't be legal". I told him that there were some loopholes that made it legal. But like cjshu mentioned, the American government and large pharmaceutical companies were starting to catch up.
This reminds me of when napster first broke out. Seemingly overnight millions of songs were being traded over the Internet, while simultaneously the music industry was loosing a sizable chunk of money that they hadn't been too concerned about in the past. They knew that people were burning CD's for friends, but this was on a different scale. They had no idea this was coming and had no idea how to stop it. Well the music industry is finally making strides in combating those (*insert dramatic sound effect here*) evil music traders. The fact is, it's illegal, and it was only a matter of time before Johnny law caught up to us...I mean them. To me the Internet seems like the wild west, with laws being broken so often, government and victims are like the little Dutch boy with his fingers in the dyke (dyke...dike..? I'm trying to use one of these words, I'm not sure which).
I think that getting prescription medications online without having a doctor thoroughly examine you in person is dangerous. That said (I don't take any medication regularly) I would have no problem doing it myself (I'm young and at least in my mind, invincible...I still take ephedrine packed dietary supplements). Nonetheless, agree or disagree, the American government is of the opinion that they have to make laws that protect us little people from ourselves. They are going to bring an end to buying legal online prescriptions in the U.S.
The point is I would not make any kind of long-term investment in anything in legal gray area. Sooner or later, the government is going to get around to regulating it. Short term, they are usually sure-fire moneymakers. I wish I had been in the position to get into online pharmacies a few years ago, then cashed out when I saw which way the wind was starting to blow.
Anyway, just my two cents...1.73 cents...1.61 cents...inflation, ya know.
