Hey all - I seem to remember google saying that you cannot have their ads on a page with affiliate links....am I imagining things?

If anyone knows, let me know.....Thanks...Josh

Are you talking about the Google Adsense program?

If so, then they don't want you to have any ads on the same page that compete with their Adsense program. They're referring to any other contextual advertising program. Banner ads on the same page aren't a problem.

They also don't want your page to have too many ads on it, banners or otherwise.

We do not permit AdWords ads to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads. This would include all content-targeted ads as well as text-based ads. Text-based ads, for this situation, can be loosely defined as ads that mimic AdWords ads or appear to be associated with AdWords ads on your site. We do allow affiliate or limited-text links.

Not really wise to include Google Ads on pages that earn you a good return through affiliate marketing -- unless you want to lose sales to competitors, since the ads will be targeting the same products/services you're selling. They're alright on content pages, but you want to keep them well away from your sales pages.

Absolutely agreed (even though I've heard success stories that would suggest otherwise).

But for those of us with dud pages that never lived up to their potential, AdSense can put some shiny back on. ;)

Now this is one I don't agree with. I have Adsense on every page on every site. I would much rather get a little something from Adsense than nothing at all

If you're not getting anything at all from the page, more often than not, then you don't have much, if anything, to lose. However, if the page is making real money for you, do you really want to risk losing, say, a $200 sale to a competitor, for a 10 cent click?

If I was reading right, you are inqiuring as to whether or not you can advertise an affiliate link?

If so, then you need to to add something like AFF or Affiliate in the verbiage of the text ad.

Default Adsense on Affiliate pages

I would suggest that it IS a good idea to place adsense on pages with affiliate links. Although you may lose visitors to a competitor, you are still being paid for the click. If the same visitor clicks on your affiliate link you don't usually get paid untill they buy something. In the end it all depends on conversion rates and levels of commission but with amazon links, for instance, I would suggest that adsense is a good supplement.

I think Google is more concerned with overall numbers prior to IPO and I've noticed they loosen up the tight guidelines in many ways.
