Default Problems with MSN's Conversion code...

I am having a real problem with my conversion code... MS adcenter keeps on telling me that i have 3 conversions (to a lead) when there is only one click, or 1 lead conversion with just 7 impressions. I run 7-8 different accounts, and they all have the same problem... I called up adcenter, and they kindly told me "it's probably the visitor refreshing the thank you page...

Uhhuh... Funny that Yahoo and Google don't have that problem.

I don't really want to go into the logs for that data - it's just too much of a hassle. Anyone have any ideas?

First thing I would suggest is checking any lib files that are being called by the thank you page, to ensure the code isn't being repeated. I have seen this happen before, where the tracking code was in a library file and caused the site to report a sale multiple times, or the purchases of multiple items as seperate sales.

Without knowing how your "conversions" are defined, or exactly how & where they're being measured. it's difficult to point to any particulare cause.

The most common cause is owing to the relevant script being placed in the dynamically generated portion of a page, rather than in the static area.

Even when in the static area, a user refresh can cause multiple counts.

Also, it is possible on some sites for a user to make, for example, multiple separate purchases, thus leading to legitimate multiple conversion counts per visit.
