Default How much should I charge for ad space?

Someone recently asked if I would display their text link ad on my website, Dental Insurance Plan (DIP) UK but I wasn't sure how much I should charge. Can anyone give me any advice?

The guy just wants a small one line text link, probably on every page.

What sort of price do you think I should charge?

Thanks,

PS

Obviously, as much as you can, but seriously, you should charge more if the link is somewaht competitive with your site.

It is hard to say, without knowing how many unique visitors you get, etc. Be careful to give pricing on a monthly or quarterly basis only, so if you see that you undervalued the space, you are not locked in forever.

Whatever you charge, be sure to treat it as an advertisement and not just a paid link.

The advertisement should be for human traffic only, and Google outright says that ads should have the rel=nofollow attribute to the <a> tag, or else a robots.txt file blocking spiders from following the link.

The bad news for the person wanting to advertise on your site is that no PR would be passed along to them, unless they already know this. But because they're specifically wanting to purchase a 'text' link, it sounds like they're wanting some ranking juice. (which Google is clamping down on from being bought or sold)

But better to have a disgruntled advertiser than to put your own site at stake.

Google's position on Paid Links

Best of luck!

Check this site out thoroughly, find out who links to them, it may be more trouble than it's worth.

In addition to all of the above good advice, I would add that you might avoid the issue of passing PR by way of simply not raising the issue with the party in question, and employing "no follow" as suggested by jawn_tech.

If he did not specifically request a countable IBL, you are under no obligation to assume that that is what he wanted.

What is your relationship with this person?

I would have to agree about the no-follow and thoroughly checking out the site. Good points. I don't know the guy, he contacted me via my contact form. I would certainly tell him up front that I would put a no-follow on his link. I suspect that that will make him decide not to advertise. He's not a competitor so that's no problem. I suspect that this is not worth it.

I'll email him back to say I plan to use no-follow and see what he says. Shall keep you posted.

Thanks everyone, very grateful for the advise.

its all depend upon your website traffic.. if your website getting good traffic per month you can charge good amount in return... How many unique visitors your website getting in a month.. or in a week ??
