Thats a good question Graeme.
There are many websites out there that feature photographs as a part of their logo. Although photographs can compliment your identity, the logo itself should be much more simple than a photograph. A lean logo is easier to remember and can integrate more tightly with your company name. If you plan on using your logo in print you will run into many other difficulties. You may need to print in CMYK (full colour processing). You may also have issues with scalability...will your logo work on a tiny business card? If you photo is printed in large format will the resolution be sufficient?
