the first time via a SE. After that, they may use the direct URL or favorites etc.

No, not at all.
PR is is only one of hundreds (possibly thousands) of factors used to determine a pages position in the SERP's. One only has to look at the SERP's to see that many lower
PR pages are outranking higher
PR pages.
