I had the fortune of being given a tour of one of our Canadian Navy ships when I lived in Victoria in '89. I think it was some class of communication vessel, being it was small and lightly armed, but what struck me was the 'sophisticated' onboard computer contained in several ~20ft rows of cabinets resembling lockers. Inside were shelves of metal 'plates' about 10 or 12 inches a side that each had approximately 1 (one) transistor solderred to it in the middle! Other than feeling humbled by the advanced technology, I don't remember much. Anyone know what kind, or class, of system that was?
