Default A finished site helped me the most

Hello all, I wanted to use my web site as a marketing tool but I did not want to pay any money for advertising. So, that left me with guerilla tactics. I'm pretty happy with the results so far. I'd like to do more and get ideas from you. Here is what I have done:

Created a tight design - When I first created my site I had ambitious plans. I wanted to create a guide that others would find useful and want to link to. Then reality set in. I was so busy working I couldn't find the time to finish the guide so my site had big holes in it. Finally I decided to give up and switch to a tight, simple site that directly promoted my products and services. Within 2 weeks, I got a huge increase in incoming calls, emails and business. Now I know it was nuts to wait! Once I switched to a tight site, Google indexed all of my site and started to give my site a page rank of 3 and 4.

Message Boards - I selected a handful of poplar message boards where potential customers go to find information. I am usually able to provide a helpful answer about every 3 days. For the most part, the answers are not self-serving. Until my latest up turn in site traffic, I got most of my customers through these boards.

Shareware - I sell low cost software that fits the definition of shareware. I have listed my software on about 200 shareware sites.

Search Engines - I've had good success by selecting a few keywords and using them consistently in my company name, URL, page titles, products and services. A direct or indirect link to my site is usually on the first page of Yahoo, Google and MSN for one or more of these search terms: "e-learning authoring", "e-learning consulting" and "e-learning software".

These simple techniques have worked for me. I hope they work for you. Leo
