Not alone. The quality and relevancy of the pages of most directories is way to low. To many outgoing links, and to little quality content of relevance. You would be better off setting up a blog, and starting to blog about your site, and then point the breadcrumb links, as well as other links, to relevant pages on your business domain.
Of cause you shouldn't rule them out entirely, just restrict their use to the free ones, and then focus on other link building strategies, such as commenting on blogs, and posting on travel/tourism related forums.
The true gem of
SEO is the anchor text of your breadcrumb links, navigation links, and especially that of incoming links. You can't always control the anchor text fully to your liking on directories, but you usually can on forums and blogs. Just make sure that they are dofollow, before you spend time posting.
The site structure is also important, I.e. Correct usage of
headings, and of cause the quality of your content.
