Years into this I still do not 'GET' what it takes to get and keep Yahoo love. Am I just being paranoid but if and when Google starts to adore you -- Yahoo will drop you like an unfaithful lover?
I have yet to decipher or find the definitive post or article on
TOP RANKING YAHOO *SECRETS* in a world that it utterly obsessed with Google. The only conclusions I've come to about Yahoo is this:
1. Using thier SiteExplorer webmaster tool helps at least see which backlinks Yahoo picks up on initially - especially helpful if you setup and promote a new site and see what shows up in the first 30 days. These are the sites I use to promote my
next venture knowing Yahoo values them.
2. That Yahoo is far, far slower in picking up on a site and it's backlinks than Goog/MSN. Easily 2 weeks, usually 4 to even get the first nibble.
3. Yahoo __seems__ to prefer very SHORT simplistic keyword phrases that align well with it's pay-per-click advertisers: i.e. "Mac Webcams" "USB Speakers". Google seems to like far more obscure and long-tail 3-5 word key phrases for sure.
If somebody out there has the definitive 5 STEPS TO YAHOO LOVE - I'd sure like to hear it!
