A large company I worked for in the past (very high volume, high fraud incidence) was able to find a processor and work out a zero dollar authorization w/capture.

I do not have the name of the processor or any of the details of the technical implementation though I can say that this solution does exist.

Try asking around with different processors.

A 0 cent authorization is only possible if you're large and the processor can see where they can make it elsewhere. If you're small without any history this is almost impossible. Authorizations can be lowered but rarely waived unless you're very large with either deep pockets, the willingness to pay for it elsewhere, or lots of processing history (usually 7 figures at least).

It's a numbers game when you talk about having fees completely waived as merchant providers do have to pay fees for each transaction.

But sure, a search is always worth it.
