I totally agree. I've tried just about everything to drive free and paid traffic to my websites with very mixed results. As soon as I started getting backlinks from higher authority sites (higher
PR), the difference was immediate. Google has always wanted its searchers to have a good experience with their search engine so they expect sites to have info relevant to the searches made.
PR is their determining of a site's relevance to these searches based on the continual fine-tuning of their algorithms. So
PR is still exremely important as long as people still expect to get relevant results for their searches.
