Good luck!
After having talked with a couple of the blogging worlds gurus. I was surprised how many of them answered this question via twitter or email. I made the move yesterday afternoon. I am doing this backwards from this suggestion partially for the time factor and partially for aesthetic reasons.

I moved everything at once so I didn't have to keep fixing my magazine style theme with every change. Integrating 6 new static pages and 17 new categories and 6 duplicate categories was best done all at once. As I check each of the 300+ posts I moved for graphical and linking errors I am removing it from the old blog and placing a redirect to its new home. I figure I will be done by the next time Google caches either blog in 2 to 3 weeks.

The big task ahead of me is something I started a month ago and that is adding page descriptions to each of my tag pages to improve its SEO and the viability of future link sales. The only problem is I have gone from 2500 tag pages to more than 7500 tag pages. That is a damned lot of work since
