I think, domain name didn't play any role when it comes to ranking in a search engine result page. I think you must consider the post of "Author". Choose the appropriate domain name regarding your site. Example, a .mil (military) or .gov (government) is not appropriate when your site is a non-profitable organization. You must pick the .org instead.
