EDIT: Facebook worked really well for one of my clients recently. Helped me establish about a dozen new contacts who were more than happy to exchange blog roll links and they were willing to do guest blog posts as well!
Oooh! Another few tip! Search Google for
allinurl:contact "insert target keyword" and send loads of emails out which follow this format:
greet
praise their site (kiss arse!)
inform them of yours and what your trying to do (make it sound like a non sales approach)
ask them to give you the benefit of their superior knowledge and review your site. (kiss arse!)
ask for link (dont specify where)
offer something in return
give thanks for their time
This is a general list and should be changed depending on the nature of the site and the request. Sometimes it's better not to mention linking at all in the first email.
Most wont reply but the ones who do will be great links!
