Default Re: My rant for the day

I will agree that I'd like to see more diversity in the email subjects but for me, it's not the email that "gets me here".

I suppose much has to do with what one wants and expects to get/gain from a forum. I'm not aware of any "public" forum that expects/demands very exacting criteria to join/participate. That in my mind is a good thing. You never know where the next "best answer/idea" is going to come from.

A forum that limits it's membership/participation based upon very specific criteria also limits its' diversity of perspective and objectivity IMO.

I doubt that anyone will disagree that spam sucks. I'd certainly prefer spending far less time scanning over hundreds of posts everytime I visit and far more time reading and participating. It is however, a neccessary "evil" that I've freely chosen to accept and that I see myself having a responsibility to do as such. I try and do my best as I'm sure the others do as well.

On the perspective of moderators... again, diversity is a good thing IMO. Different backgrounds, different perspectives, different experiences, etc. are a good thing. Like minds all tend to see things much in the same way. Looking through the same set of eyes if you will. This would tend to dictate direction rather than allow for the open and free exchange. Often, the mods discuss something the see or "feel" among each other (and with the admins) to get a variety of perspectives. Again, a good thing IMO.

If a person is more comfortable participating in a community that only provides the perspectives of "doctors" for example, then they should seek one out that only allows doctors to participate or start a community for that purpose.
