Modern telescopes can only see out to about 400 000 years after the Big Bang. Therefore experimental physics is used to understand what happened in more detail.

The experiment will hopefully bring us before the Cosmic Dark Age. It is hoped that higher dimensions than our three can be observed as a part of the experiment. It is said that science is what we do when we do not kow what to do.
When you look at stars, you observe cosmic history. The further out you see, the longer time light has travelled and the closer you are to the start of the big bang when space and time did not exist, only energy according to the equation in 1. above.
Why is it so difficult to imagine more than three dimensions. We are living in three D space and observe it as 360 degrees with four 90 degrees angles. In a higher dimesional system explained in greater detail here
