Somebody that has an idea of how to get most out of it?
Options - Free as usual (in the beginning)?
- Free, but Ad driven?
- Paid from the beginning with very strict criteria for inclusion?
- Free and paid after Google PR > n?
P.S. First link for one year will cost USD 100, 10 or 1. Jaan do you propose USD .10?
That it is free, low or high priced does not imply that the link to the site will be included. Your sites are of course candidates.
<My compact story>:
It is very easy to get green Google rank of 3 or less. Experienced that with my first sites. I have stopped submitting, since I have more important things to do. That does not mean that I will not do it in the future. One of the best resources / links is the last in my signature. Some people and even webmasters have thanked for that link. I have not done a singel submission on that link. It is included in my link farm, though. So if somebody need one in my view quality link, include the last in your directory, site. Don't email me. You may PM me here at WPW if you are serious.

An old post, however I felt the need to respond to this one. I am not sure how the directory is doing as I have not checked it out yet, but I think web directories all aspire to be in demand like DMOZ. That being the case you may want to keep it free without asking anything in return and keep it strict and hard to get in. People want what they can't have. Its human nature. After a couple years that you have created that demand, you can monitize it with adsense in a way where it wouldnt be prominant and trash its reputation. That is only if you want a DMOZ demand though. Otherwise require reciprocal or paid options.
