As much as I agree with that many (not all) web designers do not understand
SEO, I can not agree with blaming them for the "heartache" and lost money. Business is business and the companies are responsible them selves for where they spend their money. When spending a lot of money in the wrong place you've got nobody else to blame but your self,... in the very same way that when you spend it in the right place and are very successful, you´re not going to blame anybody else but your self for your success.
