Re: Teaching religion
If religion is taught in schools, these days there are so many different religions, that it is actually very confusing to children and many end up just thinking the whole thing is so messed up that they are put off and not surprisingly.
If religion is taught in schools, then in todays multicultural society, you may have 5 children from a Hindu family, 3 from a Muslim family, a few Christians, and this is an problem, as if as you say religion will instill values, then as all these religions tend to have different values, then what to do about that? It is just very confusing for children, when even the adults cant come to any agreement, what kind of values does that instil?
My personal opinion is that good qualities are inherent in people, as an ex primary school teacher I would say that they are especially evident in children, it is human nature and will flourish in most people when well treated and given a solid fact based education.
Some might say that if it were not for religion, we would all be wild like animals, but I disagree with that, I dont think it is religion that makes people good, nor irreligion that makes people bad.
