Sometimes making facts fun is like making cardboard taste good. We might tweak the direction a bit to make it more of an entertaining / educational resource, at the same time a resource for educators as well, high school age and up. Such as, the articles would be the content a teacher could make a lesson on. But at the same time, a browseable time-killer for more general audiences. I'm leaning toward the latter.
But you're right I think, more whimsy is needed.
