Default Google adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing

Hopefully this question was not posted earlier, but I saw no direct reference.

When advertising either with Google Adwords or Yahoo search marketing what works better in regards to the landing page selected for each individual keyword or phrase?

Is it best to enter a landing page that is a direct representation of the keyword or phrase, such as:

Keyword phrase: Civil War Chess Set

Landing: CIVIL WAR CHESS SET

or

Keyword phrase: Civil War Chess Set

Landing: Toys, games, dolls, beanie babies and family fun

Now the first landing, the direct, would seem to me to bring an impatient person that is looking for a specific item directly to it, however, it would not let them see the other products in category that they may also be compelled to purchase. The General category landing would possibly drive more business, but may also not convert because this potential customer may not want to look through many items and descriptions to find the item searched for.

What have you found works best? I have put my advertising on hold because of this.

The other issue I was curious about is that every dollar and sometimes a bit more than budgeted are used up each and every day by Google Adsense with no conversions to speak of compared to Yahoo Search Marketing coming in under budget with conversions..... go figure....with virtually the same campaigns.

Thank you for any input.
