Hi again

I have realised that my urls in fact follow the breadcrumbs set up on the site. I have been told that having breadcrumbs is a good idea, as not only does google like breadcrumbs (please correct me if i'm wrong), but of course helps with user navigation.
Does anyone know if there is a way to keep breadcrumbs but not have the url follow the pathway? Is it url re-writing?
