I'm not certain about this, but my impression of Google Alerts is that they tell you about "what else is showing" as opposed to your own website.
For example, although I'm fortunate enough to have a good web presence, I've yet to see myself among the Alerts. In any case, my interest is in knowing who my (potential) competitors are and this is what I understood I'd learn by signing up for the Alerts program.
