XML without XPath, XPointer, XLink etc. is like a relational database without SQL. In my view, since Google is mentioned in this thread, I think this technology has been used for some time by Google e.g. in their AdSence for search, where I think (without knowing for sure) that XLink is used in the option to embed the SERP's into your own site. That is a typical XLink (Xpointer, XPath) feaure, where you import a third party link base or source, more specifically location set into your own site.

That Google fully understands and already uses these technolgies is quite sure. Examples:I, personally have had no problems getting fast answers from Google regarding my AdSense account so long.

Note: That XPointer extends XPath since it makes it possible to select an arbitrary string that crosses several nodes of a document. If that was confusing, read the document in the static link in this note.
