I'll add that the look is quite NYTimes-ish, however that one is simple, elegant and versatile, while the two you've shown here don't have the same impact power. Of the two, my vote goes for the second, but I'd remove the reflection thingie and use a slightly thinner and crisper version of the font.
It'd help a lot if you can mention the topic and audience of the newspaper, me thinks.
