While good points -- most of the web users are not "web savvy" or "search engine savvy" - most do not use all the functionality available and really don't care.
Google itself got big, and good because they went out of their way to accommodate their market (searchers).
Well not that realistic (beyond PPC/PPI). If you took this to newspapers -- the readership is what newspapers attempt to serve - and businesses look after themselves. Amazingly when you are "news" it's "free" in both as well.
