It will not hurt you. And stop thinking about the
PR toolbar please. Concentrate on creating high quality content (keyword rich, but not too rich), and then sit back and watch what will happen.

It will hurt you. If you think you must link to them, you can use the rel="nofollow" in your links code, like e.g.
but only if they don't mind.
