Exactly. Before you even think of putting AdSense or YPN on a page, do some searches at Google and Yahoo! to see if there are PPC ads showing up in the search results; and determine about how much those advertisers are paying for those ads.
If there are no AdWords ads showing up for that topic then most likely you won't get any relevent ads to show up through AdSense. So, you cannot monetize it.
