Default Alarming text hiding in the html coding of pages

While building my new webpage, I have been checking on various pages' coding to find out how to do things, as is suggested, and it disgusts me how many webpages are using horrendous text between coding to pick up on search engines using the content meta tags.

The worst example I can cite was a webpage advertising vitamins which had some sort of bizarre story involving as many keywords as you can possibly imagine repeated over and over again, in between the coding that gave it such a warm, friendly, store-next-door feeling.

I realize that freedom of speech laws probably prevent any kind of legal redress on this, and I support free speech, but come on. Is the commercial sector of the internet really that corrupt?
