Agree on the timing - Monday and Friday are HUGE news days so your release will get buried in literally thousands of others.
If we're using PRWeb (free), we submit on Monday so it goes out on a slower news day like Wednesday. If we're paying for the release, we send on Wednesday for same day or next day distribution (Wed or Thurs).
