I think the point being made here goofus, that if you dictate your layout, font size or whatever, its the visitor that calls the shots. I thnk the said statement was made in the opinion of the viewer of your website.

I think fixing the font is counter-productive, especially for the visually impaired. That is one of the many reasons why a liquid layout favours the fixed layout. If you really must fix font size, use percentages rather than pixels/points whatever.

If you were working in printing, would you ban readers using a magnifying glass?

Although I do agree with your idea for fixed width within a fluid layout.
