Google is going to give a 6 month old site a hard time. Give it another 3 - 6 months before you expect too much. Just keep building links during that time.

Now, as for Yahoo, some decent links and not overly done on-page optimization should do it. My observations have me thinking that they prefer 3% - 4% keyword density with 2% being too little and 7% being too much, although it varies depending on the competition. Very tough balance.

MSN, as you've already seen, seems to be the easiest to game at the moment. They probably just need to mature a bit more.
