Google has followed the Keep It Simple Stupid approach and has a nice clean layout.
However, in saying this, for the best search results I always use Yahoo. They have more relevant listings and display results that are more relevant to the actual keyword search. Google is far too caught up trying to generate money from other search engines and this reflects in their search results.
Google has another irritating drawback. Search for a keyword, and Google will decide

Type in a keyword on Google and many of the results are sure to be totally irrellevant sites. Yahoo is far more efficient and reliable
Give me Yahoo any day for search results
