Default How to register a www.xxxx.uk.com domain

We have a client who's domain name takes the form www.xxxx.uk.com - we cant find a whois entry for this domain as none of the sites I have checked seem to like the fact that it ends with a uk.com extension.

How is this domain format achieved and where do I register/setup them? The closest thing I can see is to setup subdomains, but this appears to be a post-domain (is there such a thing?).

The story is that the client doesnt know who the domian is registered with - they want to move it to our registar, but I've hit a bit of a stone wall when I cant even find the registrar used!

Is it possible for a DNS server to be setup that would route traffic from a name like the one above, even though that domain name was not actually registered? For example as DNS requests get routed about, at some point the request will arrive at this custom DNS server - would this be a way to acheieve use of such a domain? Is this possible?

We are also trying to sort out the www.xxxx.uk.co.uk counterpart.

ThankQ.
