Default Really?

I posted on another thread but there was this SEO guy who did a PR that talked about how his firm achieved #1 rankings and made it seem like it was a big successful deal.

The terms were actually very low-ranking, low-search terms, but also turned out to be quite expensive as PPC words. That would have been far more impressive.

But as such, some SEO bloggers and other forums picked up on the shoddy PR and laughed it to scorn. It makes me wonder if the PR was posted on the site and was made available with direct link - if it would affect rankings?

Folks want to say that there is "negative IBL" factor/filter/algo/whatever in place for Google which uses LSI to garner the quality of the links. But "miserable failure" proves that theory is miserably inadequate. I wonder if some SEOs are generating bad press or "shock news" to get others talking - bzz, bzz, bzz.

I look at Paris Hilton as an example with the latest shock news on her. I did a search for 1-word "sidekick" on Google. Yep. 1 site already on the SERP for sidekick and related to Paris Hilton.

So, is this another way Google is opening itself up for abuse? Before long, Google will be the tabloid King of the Internet.
