Two software products I market have super-long sales copy, but I don't use the mega scroll technique seen on some of these newer sales sites.
Like you, I can't get through the first three paragraphs on these pages and I think most surfers are more like me. It is overwhelming bombardment that just creates a "spammy atmosphere".
I've got a lot to say about my software products, but I've broken it all down into digestible chucks, under appropriate title bars that you can navigate to directly. I also chop up the pages using "next" and "back" buttons.
All the SEM experts say 250-300 words per page, I think that there is truth in that.
