Default Google AdSense and affiliate marketing

Can AdSense and affiliate marketing work together?
At first, I thought the answer was a resounding "NO"! Google AdSense doesn't like to share pages with affiliate links. After a little thought though, I came up with a work around and I'm sure a lot of you have thought of the same opportunity.

I do the SEO for www.darkmountains.com - It is an outdoor gear site with reviews of gear and affiliate links to an outdoor gear supplier. Since the affiliate links are such a big part of the site and are on most of the pages, we felt there would not be a possibility for using Google's AdSense. In fact, the site was originally rejected by AdSense, I believe because it is chock full of affiliate links. So, while the affiliate links were not generating a whole lot of income for us, we could not make use of the traffic coming in using AdSense either. We thought of making the links to suppliers non-affiliate so that we could use ADSense instead but a few sales in a few days made us decide not to do that.
(And lose the commission dollars we'd already made?)

BIG LIGHT BULB OVER MY HEAD!!

We divided the site - We developed a section of what we call "Old school mountain skills" and wrote articles for the pages. On those pages, there are no affiliate links but there are links to the pages with affiliate links, of course. On the article pages though, we have Google AdSense on the side and it is making a difference overnight! (Besides the fact that it made us wake up to re-working the site a little...)

Well, just a thought for the day...

Good luck and prosperity to all.
