I am using
http://www.blogger.com and found it very user friendly for my clients and their sites.
Here is the point - CMS sites cost money. Most of my clients are start-ups that cannot afford to spend too much money and a lot of them are technophobes.
So, I design them static sites and give them a blog with a little bit of training where they could then update the sites themselves.
I found that you need to know html and go into the code if you want to set up the template but in general templates are available which you could use if you start out.
A sample of one such blog that returned great results is
http://www.africatravelmart.com/realestate.html
Launced February, first sale in September. Take into account that we are targeting the International property market and that it does take time for clients to travel to view properties in South Africa.
Setup of the blog was done - agent trained and he is now updating the blog himself - less work for me. All I do is then concentrate on the positioning in the engines.
We added RSS and voila!
My own site which focus on mobile telecoms is doing just as well and I received direct enquiries from it already - but it is a lot of work to maintain and update it.
Great for news and we also use it for product features, special offers etc - some are of opinion that one should not direct sell on a blog but for me it is working. We, of course cover articles as well.
My biggest problem is getting clients to realize the importance of it and provide content to update the blogs with.....some technophobes cannot be convinced to do it themselves....
It surely is a great lot of fun though!
