I believe it has something to do with the servers that the SE are using. I experience this occasionally after changes to my site but it only last for a few days and then the old page is completely gone.

I believe the engines use multiple servers and for whatever reason switch back and forth.

I have seen where the house next door to me will show completely different search results for identical keywords, and will also show cached pages on one machine and the new pages on another.

If I am not mistaken, Google has at least 10 servers and I have no idea how many Yahoo utilizes.
