A few comments about the
Google Dance... I caught a later bus and it was dark as we pulled into the headquarters. Our driver let us off in a little field with only the instructions "Follow the path all the way there."
We felt like Dorothy travelling down some sort of Yellow Brick Road illuminated by the glow of lamplight, with a castlelike building growing beyond the tops of the trees in the distance. We walked seemingly forever, wondering if the road would ever end. But then we saw movement beyond the trees and we could hear the commotion. We'd arrived at last!
The party wasn't just a party. It has been compared to a rave or a frat party. There was an arcade, air hockey, karaoke (I hear Garrett did a great job), a live band, a disco ball and dance floor, a multi-colored light show, and catered food, including Ben & Jerry's ice cream. The headquarters includes its own volley ball court, fitness center with five personal trainers, a cafeteria and a running track. And it's still under construction!
I think it says something for Larry and Sergy that they're willing to put so much money into creating that sort of a working environment for their employees. And you couldn't chisel the grins off those people's faces - although I'm sure that had to do with the fact that the IPO is rapidly approaching...
